mhtucker: (Q&A)

Today's mood is brought to you by other people.

Don't turn around to someone who is trying to help you and stab them before they even turn their backs.

And if you do that, don't call that person a friend.

That's like me coming to you with an apple because you are starving and you throwing it at my head.

What the fuck?

Totally blown away by today. Don't be surprised if it ends up in a book.

On the brighter side, it's time for the question of the day. Since this is the last one, I've done some digging around and decided that I would collect a series of questions from various sites to ask myself in the future. I have yet to decide if I will actually answer them, but I have them.

The last of the fanfic questions is going to be impossible for me to answer, but I'll put it here anyway.

Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

Well I can't link to it because it doesn't exist.

This answer isn't about hiding who I am from people, it is the honest truth of the fact that I don't have a favorite. I don't like picking favorites in anything.

I do have some lines that I like more than others and every once in a while, if I reread something that I have written, be it for editing or continuity, I smile or get a shiver or feel a rush of excitement when the words come to me again.

Every once in a while I do allow myself a single moment to think, "Damn, those words were good."
mhtucker: (Q&A)

So I cheated a little on the last two questions and read ahead. I have been pondering for days what it is I can do to advertise myself and still be anonymous.

I mean, that's what these questions are, right?

I know I say it all the time, but advertising isn't what this is site is about. I have other sites and logins elsewhere to advertise my work, this particular spot is all about just being me, being interactive as a regular Joe.

The question today is:

What is your current project or projects?

So how about I give you a list of fandoms that may or may not be true?

  • Black Stallion

  • Once Upon a Time

  • Gargoyles

  • Back to the Future

  • Dragonheart

  • Star Trek

  • Timeless

And here's a list of things to remember about that list.

  • Two of these fandoms I wrote fics for in the past, but am not working on at all now.

  • At least one of the fics is a complete lie to throw you off my trail.

  • I don't keep all of my work on the same site.

  • I left one fandom I am currently writing off the list.

  • Saying that I'm working on a fic doesn't mean it is posted yet.

  • I tend to write 47 pages of fic, so the ones not posted won't be up for a long time.

If you can track me down based on all of that, then you deserve to read the stuff and know it's me.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

I'm getting in way over my head with this stuff that I'm doing for my education. Why is it that I feel incomplete if I'm not learning something? I'm very certain I asked this a few weeks ago when I got started in all this nonsense.

Just take my money, places of education.

It's not like I need it.

Moving on quickly to the question of the day, which I hope will provide me with more to write about than I have done so far, because I have a super busy writing day and a very limited time to write in.

Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

I was once given a gift by an artist who was actually commissioned by someone else to draw one of my characters with someone from Deep Space Nine. It's a beautiful picture, but it also can stir up some serious nonsense, because of the way the characters are posed. Not going in to all that here. I'm grateful for the picture, I still have it to this day and it was made for me back in 1999.

As far as actual collaboration, no, I haven't done it. This isn't because I don't want to, it's just that no one likes my stuff enough to want to work with me.

Or I'm an ass and impossible to work with.

I think they'd have to work with me first to know that though.

Maybe I have a reputation.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

Absolutely beautiful day today. I think we have finally gotten out of winter and into something warmer.

Lots of pollen, but it's warmer.

This is the kind of day when I write a lot, with windows open and fresh air coming in I seem to be at my peak of creativity. It is also the kind of day where I wish I had a screened in porch or some other outdoor unit where I could be outside, but sheltered.

I have no idea why nature and warmth get my juices flowing. I see people sitting in a coffee shops with laptops open, just tapping away and I can't help but wonder how they do it. Sometimes I get a little jealous, but mostly I'm curious. It's a thing, isn't it? The mentality of "I'm a writer and I can sit in a cafe and write for hours at a time working on my next novel. It's the cool thing.

This is only proof that I am the least cool of any of the authors out there. I firmly believe this.

What's the question of the day?

Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

I swear I didn't cheat on this.

Well, maybe my subconscious had the question stored away somewhere, but it wasn't intentional.

I've also answered this before. I love to write at home or outside. The idea of writing in a public place appeals to me only as a cool factor, not as a plausible experience. I've got to have a certain amount of quiet, in fact, as soon as my spouse gets home from work, my creative mind shuts right down. Any writing that gets done has to be done in a separate room from that point on or I have to have headphones on.

Some of that may be due to the fact that I get talked to a lot. Love of my life and everything, but the minute I pick up a pencil and paper or start tapping on keys, an entire life story must be told and ten million irrelevant questions have to be asked that would never have come up before. It's the oddest thing.

One place I never mentioned that I would love to write in is on a train. I've managed to do it once, but I'd love to have the opportunity to ride across any country on a train and just write away.

I've also talked about what I write in or on. I use a computer, notebooks, or rocketbook, depending on how the mood strikes, or what is practical at the time. I have a typewriter keyboard and a bamboo one also.

Things get switched up a lot to push me to a point of getting the good stuff down.

Occasionally it's practical, but my mind's too askew for permanence in the practicality department.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

There are times when I really can be an absolute monster. Today was one of those days. I'm just going to apologize to the world right now and move on into some other realm.

Like answering the question of the day.

What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?

I have only ever once researched anything for a fanfic and that was the layout of Paris. There was an assignment for a writing class I was taking that was supposed to teach you how to do research for novels and short stories. I used it for fanfic instead.

Other than that I haven't ever researched anything for a fanfic, unless it's part of an episode that I needed to make sure I had set right in my mind.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

This morning I have a question:

Why is it that when a city builds a park, they first cut down all the trees inside the park, then plant new ones? This baffles me every time I see it. I know there must be some reason of engineering that dictates that every tree on the property must be removed in order to put down a picnic shelter or playground, but I just don't see the logic in it. Is keeping the perimeter trees such a terrible thing?

Nature is too important to throw away like this. No one should wonder why we have so many people with breathing problems. If we kept more trees in our lives, we'd have cleaner air. End of story.

On to the question for the day.

Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

I certainly don't want people around. Under no circumstance can I write with talking going on, especially when someone is talking to me or at me, as so often happens at home. I also can't write to lyrics, so anything that I am going to listen to while writing must be natural sound or some type of lyricless music.

What I listen to and when I listen depends on my mood. Some times I write best with nothing in the background, sometimes I want to listen to whatever is happening in the scene I am writing. If my characters are at the beach, I'll put on ocean waves. If my characters are in the Enchanted Forest, I'll put on mountain stream sounds. The list is endless and the same goes for novel writing as well.

Because I'm a friendly sort, let me throw down some links for you.

I use three apps the most of any other. Ambio and Relax Melodies are my favorites, with Meditaton and Relaxation coming in not far past that.

All of these apps allow you to combine random sounds into something that you find soothing, but only Ambio comes with downloadable sounds that are arranged into things like a boat on the water, starship, city life, or fireworks on the mall. Once you have downloaded a theme, you can use any part of that theme in your own personalized one.

Want a fire on a starship with horses running around? Yeah, you can do that.

Though I don't know why you would.

Holodeck simulation, maybe.

Did I just create a fanfic challenge?

When it comes to music or nature sounds, I really prefer sounds to music, but I will occasionally throw on some ambient music if I'm in that sort of mood and feeling creative enough that the music isn't going to be a distraction. When I'm writing a period piece, I might use medieval type music or something traditional from Japan or China, but I generally go for ocean, rain forest, woodlands, or farmyard ambient sound when I need something to set a mood or am just having a hankering for something in the background to match what I'm writing.

My only rule is that the sound does always have to match what I'm doing. I can't have a fire on a starship with horses if I'm writing about a sunset at the beach. Birds in the woods, maybe, but not equines in engineering.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

When other people are depressed they eat ice cream or stay home all day. Some soldier on through it, living their day. Me? I either bring new animals into my home or sign up for some kind of education.

No, it doesn't make sense to me either.

Apparently I also write, so at least I have that accomplishment for the day. A few more pages on my book that looks into the social ideals of-

Well, if I tell you, you'll be all over looking for it. So, no.

Sorry.

Not really.

At least I'm moving on with every single project I'm meant to be doing right now.

Including the question of the day:

How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

I use one, though I'd rather use two, because while the one is an English teacher and knows what they're doing, they're also my spouse and don't go critical on it the way I would want a beta to do. Generally that beta work is something like, "I fixed all the punctuation and spelling. It's good." While that's real handy, it's not the feedback I'm used to expecting as someone who is taking my work seriously.

Then again, this is fanfic, so should I really take it this seriously?

I think so.

And that's what matters.

Beware!

mhtucker: (Q&A)

Well apparently I can't learn from my mistakes, because here I am again, answering questions in the early hours of the morning when there isn't anything to talk about.

That's not true.

Public service announcement follows.

I have recently discovered through some of my friends who have attended Creation Entertainment conventions that their credit cards have been charged fraudulently, not by Creation, but by someone who got the numbers from their system. They claim to be dealing with it, but they also refused to admit they had suffered a data breach until a week after 60 some people told them their cards had been charged.

If you have given your card to Creation, be on the lookout! Check with your card companies and report anything suspicious to both the company and Creation.

On to the question of the day.

When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

I post to A03 (Archive of Our Own) and from there I will link back to other sites, but all of those things are usually under another account, since I'm here to be an unknown. I don't want people reading my stuff because they've seen other things I've published or put out into the world and follow me because of that. I just want to be a human who enjoys writing famfiction, the same as everyone else.

I mean, I even took these icons from someone else to hide behind.

Not quite true, I asked and they were given to me.

I needed some way to throw people off my path.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

A virus of some kind has gotten in to the English language and spread like wildfire. Why is it that if we go to a movie that is an hour and a half long it's too short, yet when we talk everything has to be abbreviated as much as possible? We have the balls to complain that there aren't two full hours of explosions, fire fights, and death but we can't say what we damn well mean on a piece of paper.

This astounds me.

You know why you people don't understand the proper meaning of the classics? It isn't translated into jibberish.

As someone who decided to their writing prompts on twitter, I know I have little reason to complain about length, when I am trying to cram an interesting story into however many characters a tweet will hold now, but you don't ever see me substituting regular words for nonsense. My stuff shouldn't need translating.

I mean:

Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

I had to ask someone what this was, because not a one of us was around for the Big Bang.

Why can't you people just ask if I've participated in a seasonally themed group writing challenge? Are there just too many words for your fingers to type out or your mouth to wrap around?

Well, the answer to my own question is that I haven't. I'm not in any cliques within the fanfiction world, so I don't get invited. Why am I not in any cliques? Because I want people to like my work because it's what they like, not because they like me. If you like me and hate what I put down, good for you! Eat a cookie today! If you don't know me from James T Kirk and love what I've put out there, good for you! Eat a cookie today! If you're some other combination of those things, you get a cookie too!

Even if I did get an invitation or find out about them before they started happening, I'd refuse to participate anyway. I simply can't make the time to follow a schedule that requires me to make up a chunk of stories on a single theme.

That said, I did used to participate in a writing prompt group on livejournal where you were given three words and a sentence to include in your fics wherever you chose.

You only had to use one.

I used all of them.

Every time.

For multiple characters.

The writing flew from my fingers like birds let out of a cage.

I miss those times.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

I need to stop doing these so early in the morning. There is just nothing to talk about.

Did have a very vivid dream last night about two of my friends having a fight and getting a divorce over something I never could figure out. In the end Timon and I ended up hiring him for our company and he came to live in the corner condo at my childhood home. Somehow after getting him settled in, I ended up traveling overseas with pirates and everyone was just pissing on the spot where they stood, all over the ship, which was full of open slats all the way to the hull, so you could see the ocean through the boards you walked on.

No more potatoes for me before bed!

Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

Do series count as sequels? Because most of my things are part of a series of some kind. I also have a spinoff of sorts with two fics, one takes place when the child of the characters is young, and one when he is grown, I'm working on them both at the same time. I suppose that could qualify.

I probably write single pieces just as often as I do a series and when I was much younger, say in high school, single works were about all that I did, except for one story that I did decide to make a sequel for. I really don't remember if the second one was as good as the first, or as well received.

I write stories in a series because the shows are filmed in a series. I like to watch the arc of change in characters and the relationships that grow from their interactions. I also don't write smut or any of that kind of thing, so it's easier to do episodic stuff, though you can certainly have episodic fluff and smut as well.

Wet paint!

mhtucker: (Q&A)

Feeling much better today and inspired to get things done. Have a lot of chores around the house to get done before I can get to writing. The birds are demanding food and I have to repaint the numbers onto our mailbox because they don't make mailbox number stickers sticky anymore.

Yes, that means that if you can drive to every mailbox in the world within the next few hours and find one that has wet paint on it, it COULD be mine! Better get moving!

Before you go, let's do the question of the day.

Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

What is the deal with bunnies? Cute, fluffy animals do not inspire me to write fanfiction, unless I am writing about cute fluffy animals!

Ideas from other people are not allowed to inspire me. Those are their ideas, not mine. I won't go stealing them. I'm sure that on some subconscious level, I have read something and later down the line applied some trace of the idea to something I have stirring around in my mind, but never consciously. It's human nature to apply what we know to what we don't yet know or what we are working on, but theft isn't my thing.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

That 5k took a lot more out of me than it should have. I'm disappointed in myself for letting it get to the point where I've had to be in bed all day after the race. I'm a runner, I should know better. I should also be able to recognize what is making me feel off and I can't.

Enough moaning. What's the question?

When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

First of all, why are ideas named after sweet, fluffy animals? Is it the idea that they breed quickly? Because mine don't and I wouldn't ever call an idea a bunny anyway.

Secondly, I think I've touched on part of this question before. Maybe I'm going too deep with my answers.

I don't sit down and write immediately because I'm usually not in a place or time when I can do that, but I remember the scene that has come to me and I write it down as soon as I can.

mhtucker: (Q&A)

Going to get the day moving a little earlier today. I hope to get a lot of writing done and won't be able to do that with these questions and prompts hanging over me. Won't be able to do as much tomorrow. It's the 5k.

How did we ever make it into the middle of March? Is this year flying, or is it just me?

Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

I could take this question one of two ways. Either "where" means in what location or it means how does the inspiration get to me. Either way you aren't going to be very interested in my answers.

So, take two.

And three.

  • In what location do you get the most inspiration for your fics from?

I am anywhere when something hits me. I will be driving my car, walking my dogs, almost asleep, in the middle of my work day, working on my various art crafts, or doing anything that has to do with living or life when inspiration strikes.

It is very annoying, but also something I absolutely love.

The place that it doesn't come to me is when I'm sitting in front of a computer. Unless I am starting something new or in a super creative mood, I can't just open a blank document and go to town. I can do that on a piece of paper, but not in front of a screen. If I wanted to start something new at a computer with no inspiration, I would need one of my other keyboards, or to take the computer to a window or get outdoors.

  • How do you get the most inspiration for your fics?

It honestly just happens in my brain. I don't see something that inspires me and I very rarely look at an episode and think "I wonder what happens before this scene" or "what if that happened differently?" or "What the heck is she thinking right now with that expression?!" Those moments are so rare that they happen maybe once in a seven year experience.

When I am filling in the gap of a scene or creating something completely new, it's something that has come to me much later, as the little tick of an idea that latches on to me and keeps sucking my thoughts into it until I give in and write it down, the same as with any other writing that I do.

There are three kinds of people in the world, the ones who can count and the ones who can't.

Bonus answer.

What gives you the most inspiration for your fics?

I realized that this could also be an interpretation of the question and decided that since I actually had an answer for it, it should be put down.

When I'm typing I have a bamboo keyboard and a typewriter keyboard that I use when I need extra inspiration in my surroundings. Which one I use depends on what I'm typing and what my mood is. I will also use a different computer sometimes, or be in another room.

I absolutely love to write outside, either on a computer or on paper. There is something about being out in the world that jolts my mind into overdrive. It can be raining or sunny, I can be outside in my yard or travel to somewhere else, in the city or country, just about anywhere gives me inspiration. The thing about location is that I have to be in the mood for it. If I'm in a noisy coffee shop and I'm in the mood to be out by a quiet stream, I'm not going to be getting any work done without headphones and amazon music.

How I write on paper is just as interesting as how I use a computer. There are times when I need a spiral notebook, others when I need a three ring binder, and still others when I must use my Rocketbook and pen. Each of these materials produces something a little different and I'm never quite sure when the inspiration to use one thing or another is going to strike. As a result, I keep two bags with me at all times. One bag has my computer, spiral notebook and Rocketbook in it, the other a three ring binder or loose leaf paper. My house is full of notebooks and packages of paper that are half used because I will often go to a store for a new pencil or pen and just being there will inspire me so I will have to get notebook and paper too, so that I can start writing right away.

Which is a pain if I'm the one who drove there in the first place.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

Why livejournal, WHY do you insist on using the old posting tool in a NEW TAB!

The above isn't a complaint, it's an honest question.

And maybe a little of a complaint.

Only a tiny one.

Also, where in the name of everything I love has the time gone? It's Thursday afternoon already! I'm only halfway to my goal with one of my books for the week, but that is much better than I expected I would be doing and the words seem to be flowing at a regular pace, so I'm pleased enough. If I could ever sit down for more than an hour at a keyboard, I'd be dangerous.

Speaking of keyboards, I might actually get out one of my writing ones this weekend. Have yet to decide if I want the typewriter or the bamboo one. I'm trying not to get my hopes set too high, but I am also craving locking myself away in a room with all of the windows open and tapping away.

Fingers crossed on that because I also have a 5k to get through on Saturday.

On to the question of the day.

Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

This all depends on my mood and now I'm going to interpret AO3. I still haven't quite gotten into a flow, though I think I have come close. Having basically decided that each scene is a chapter and each story is an episode, I'm about to go through all my stuff and rearrange it. Doing that, I expect my chapters won't have titles, just the stories themselves.

As far as their being the bane of my existence... That isn't so clear. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. There were some titles that came to me instantly, others I had to put on boxing gloves and beat the crap out of the thing before I settled on something I liked.

I generally like the works I post where the titles came naturally, but the general public doesn't seem to. This may or may not be a coincidence.

And if you read a fic, how about leaving a comment, huh?
mhtucker: (Q&A)

Well today has been a day of much needed rest, though after I am done with this post, I plan to throw myself into some serious work.

Right now I seem to be too hungry to type. So while I'm munching away, here's a question for people that craft.

What is the deal with these "diamond" pictures everyone is suddenly making?

I was recently given one and have gotten maybe one third of the way through it. I find it mindless and meditative, but it's not something I am suddenly going to start doing with my free time. I paint, I do stitch crafts, and those things I understand, but this idea of putting tiny bits of plastic onto one giant sticker that won't hold them forever baffles me.

What do you do with this thing when you are done? How do you preserve it?

Stitching can be used for something, paintings can be hung, but this particular craft seems like a waste of already useless plastic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not miserable with it. In fact, I'm driven to finish it by some part of me that just wants to see what a project looks like when it's finished. But then what?

I will say that making this one that I was given has put me back in the mind to do paint by numbers again, so I have ordered some to arrive once I'm done with this diamond craze. I think it must have been 30 years or more since I've done a good paint by number. That craving runs in my family. I'm almost certain my father once told me my grandmother did them also. I think I also get my desire to craft and scrapbook from her, because when we cleaned out the house, we found some of her old scrapbooks, which I brought home to work on myself. My father painted too, though in a watercolor free style and only for fun.

All this talk about crafts and now I don't want to work.

On to the question of the day.

Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

I am the worst summary writer in the history of anywhere. I have recently been trying to improve myself on that front, but it has failed miserably. There are people who get paid to do that sort of thing and I'm not one of them, so when it comes to writing up one for my own fanfiction it is usually clumsy and useless.

They are necessary, however, so I never leave one out. If there is something I hate more than anything else on fanfiction sites, it's a work without a summary. Oh, that just grates on my nerves. How is anyone supposed to know what they are getting into? IF you can't be bothered with something long, at least write one sentence. "Jane and Paul go to the zoo." is better than me wondering what the hell I'm getting myself into as I read along.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

Lots of writing accomplished yesterday. One of my books is coming along very well and I am surprisingly pleased. Hopefully the others in the series will go as well once I get this one settled into itself. Spring is around the corner, which means I am yet again looking at outdoor sheds for writing in. There are two places where I am the most creative; outside and in a tiny closet in a house that no longer belongs to my family. Since I don't have access to the second thing, I crave the first.

Apparently, I also love tiny spaces.

I must stop hunting down sheds and start actually answering questions. Today is actually a good one.

Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?

I think the most important things to warn for are anything a society would find immoral or illegal. Now, I don't mean go through the list of the world's cultures and put down everything you see, but I do mean that if you are going to have something like questionable consent or a questionable age range, you should warn people before they get in to reading it.

Separate from that, anything that you think or know will be a trigger for people should be announced to readers prior to their getting involved in the story. That is going to include violence in general or mistreatment of someone within their relationship. I know what it is to deal with Post Traumatic Stress and I wouldn't wish a surprise like that on anyone.

The basics of this is, if you think what you are doing is doing to make someone severely angry or upset, just let them know, even if it is part of the characters natural relationships with each other. Better to have people respect that you warn them than have them ditch your work all together because you can't be trusted.
mhtucker: (Q&A)

rememberyou.jpgYet again I had a post all written out and it was destroyed by this stupid site. I mean, I'm grateful to have it here and all, but don't say you can upload a picture if every time it just shuts down your browser.

After that fiasco, let's have a look at the written week in review.

My intention for the past week was to write 5,000 words for the book I am trying to finish and 5,000 for one of the other novels. I also intended to finish a section of fanfiction and made a goal of writing for at least one hour each day for the whole week.

I did all of it.

Except the random second novel. That one got put on the back burner, not because I wanted it to be, but because I just was too exhausted yesterday after our insane weekend. I did get part of the book worked out, just not written down. So maybe that counts for something.

Or maybe I'm just trying to make myself look better.

Next week the numbers are increased to 10,000 words and I have no idea how I'm going to get that done. I might lower the numbers next month, or give myself less projects to do at once. I had put the extra work in there because I thought I might get drained from working on one project for so long, but it didn't happen that way and I didn't need the extra project. Three more weeks in the month. We will see how this goes as planned for now.

On to today's question.

Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

If you have been reading this, you already know the answer to the first part. I write canon except for one series that I have which is not canon. It's new and an experiment and I am dreading it already.

Has fanfic changed the way I see the original stuff? I don't know. I've said before that I always said Odo wanted Kira long before they wrote it in to the series. Beyond that, I did write something for Trip and T'Pol ages ago, back when the show was just nearing the end, which dealt with their past interactions. I had to go back and watch a bunch of episodes and looking at them through the fanfic I was trying to put down, I interpreted some things differently that time around.

Off to bed.

Today was busy, but not productive. Everyone deserves some down time, but I wasn't ready for it and it feels like I let myself down.

Also it seems some kind of curse is taking over my household.

The curse of the sleepy stomachache.

Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

I'm not even sure what this question means. I'm going to interpret it as meaning that you take a book or move and put it in a different universe than the one it was set in.

If that's what it means, the answer is no.

If it is asking if I've done crossovers, then the answer is yes.

Which is both right and wrong at the same time, because isn't a crossover really something taken from one universe and put into another?

It's late and I'm exhausted and I know that's not what the question means.

I'm not the Dark Curse.

I don't send people to Storybrooke.

This whole time I've been using the wrong icon for these posts.

Since I've had the writing one posted until now, let's do a Friday update of what is being written, shall we?

The series is coming along well. Except for the fact that I wrote the books at separate times, so they don't have a unity to them yet as far as how they are written. I don't know if I'm shooting myself in the foot by keeping the rough drafts as they are and then unifying them in the first Edit or not.

Who am I kidding? I'm already wounded.

The local novel is doing well, and the one I started as a plot back in high school is starting to get flushed out a little.

Fanfiction continues as well.

And no, I'm still not telling you where I write or what goes where. I like that my work is invisible to you.

Is that shooting myself in the foot?

How do you know I don't have another site for actual publication news?

Gotcha.

Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?

By genres, does this question mean rating, or do they mean actual genres?

That sounds like a stupid question, but some people consider explicit material a genre in itself.

As far as actual genres, I only write or read what I know. I'm not interested in learning about a new world through fanfiction. If I want to meet new characters and whatnot, I'll check out the show or movie first.

When it comes to ratings, I will read everything, but I won't write everything. I simply know what I'm good at and I won't subject anyone to something I'm no good at.

Also, having friends in the industry, there are some things I just don't want to see them doing or write them doing. That gets awkward fast.
